Art Statement: Gallery walls

Posted August 01, 2011 by Christina

I know I know.. we have seen it all before... I am wondering though do you prefer the mismatched sizing of a gallery wall or the organized defined area of pieces that are all framed the same?
I am a mismatched girl myself and have them all around the house filled with family pictures and vintage documents alike.  I am running out of walls though and need to figure something out as I still love artwork and will definitely need to add more to my collection..

I am loving the bottom pic of the vintage oil paintings..

I like mismatched, and have a dining room wall full of beautiful family and friends pics in a variety of frames – and I can add to it any time, because its very organic. Much more flexible that way!

Gallery walls are meant to replicate an art gallery-and none of them ‘match’, thus the eye candy.

The bottom oil portrait gallery is incredible, and would wager it would cost a bundle to replicate.

I like a slightly organized look on the wall, using the same motifs, whether photography art etc. Of course I also love to see one large Statement work of art!

We love both the mismatched look and a matching symmetrical look. Beautiful images!

You can’t go wrong with either. We just installed a mismatched gallery in our living room. It was a challenge to convince my husband, an engineer. Yet,once it was up he loved it.

you could always go salon style and just cover every possible surface all the way to the ceiling!

There is nothing I love more than a beautiful picture gallery…so pretty and personal. I’ve always leaned towards an organized grouping, but the last image has me changing my mind…

I am also a mismatched girl. I am of the opinion that the different sizes make for a more in interesting look. It doesn’t hurt if the frames are of a variety of sizes and material.

love the first image in particular – something about the proportion of the frame thickness + the matte
