Lights by the pool...

Posted March 19, 2013 by Christina

First off I wanted to say Thank you for all of your lovely comments on entertaining!  I always want to but it is hard to get everyone on board.  Maybe I need to just invite you guys over instead!
As I am sure you have heard we are in the process of working on a big project for ourselves here.  We are putting in a pool and I am so excited about the possibilities.  I love the idea of lighting outside the pool, candles on the deck, lights in the trees so moody and beautiful when reflected in the water.

Even though it is not the center of attention here I love it!
 Do you have a pool?
Have you ever done this when entertaining outside?
 I can hardly wait!

The middle photo is so magical looking with the water running off the edge and the all the lights looking like fireflies in the sky.

Beautiful post. I have a pool but it seems like the teenagers in my life get more use out of it in the party sense. For my nieces 14th a few years ago I purchased in pool underwater disco balls that cast beautiful changing hues throughout the night..I loved it and it was festive. For more adult parties I tend to style with the clear fairy lights and votives votives votives. They also sell waterproof votives in warm light (my preference) to float in the pool on makeshift lily pads and the like. With regards to dinner parties it seems like our parents generation were better with follow through, but in the past several years I have taken book from my parents book and created a dinner club. For my parents it was a once a month themed potluck with hosts on a rotating basis. It was lovely. I went to many of these dinners while I was in France visiting..loved it. I also recall one poignant tip in a piece Erma Bombeck wrote in 1979..among other useful things, she said if she had to live life over again she would “have people over for dinner, even if the carpet were frayed or the couch stained” Th st resonated with me in my 20’s and still does. I distressed. It is worth a read, if you haven’t.
